Common Risk Factors for Cavities

Some people are blessed with a healthy, bright, cavity-free smile that looks that way most of their life, while others are more susceptible to cavities than the rest of us. The only way to know where you stand is to take a look at the different risk factors there are for cavities.

If you can avoid some of the extra risk factors from your life, you can push yourself closer to the side of a cavity-free smile. How many of these risk factors do you have?

Risk Factors for Developing Cavities

Some of the cavity risk factors you can control, such as what you eat and drink, while other risk factors you cannot, such as where your teeth happen to be located. Try and focus on the ones you can fix, and see how much it helps to benefit the health of your teeth.

If you are drinking a lot of acidic beverages, you are going to be more likely to get cavities. The same goes if you eat a lot of sugary foods. Those that do not properly keep to their dental hygiene routine are also more likely to have cavities than those who brush twice daily, see their dentist every six months like clockwork, and floss each and every day.

Your age and other medical conditions are not necessarily under your control, but they do factor into how many cavities you fall victim to. If you want fewer cavities in your mouth, eat a healthy diet, care for your teeth properly, get plenty of fluoride, and see your dentist when you should.

Your dentist wants you to have that gorgeous, cavity-free smile as much as you want to have it. Going in to see her or him as scheduled is the best way they can help you achieve that goal.
