Congratulations, you've just been hired for your new job! That's fantastic. You can't wait to get there and make a good impression. You want to look confident, and a part of being able to show that is with a great smile.

Here are a few tips for getting that fantastic, confident smile that will make your new co-workers and superiors take notice.

Home Care
The first step to getting a healthy, confident smile is to take care of it at home. Brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss daily. This will help prevent the buildup of plaque and bacteria, which could otherwise lead to tooth decay and gum disease. Tooth decay can alter the appearance of your teeth, making them look unhealthy, and untreated gum disease can lead to serious infections. For extra help fighting dangerous bacteria, rinse your mouth with an antibacterial mouthwash.

Quit Smoking

Smoking has a number of associated health risks, and it can also affect your mouth. Not only does it lead to discoloration of your teeth, it greatly increases your chances of developing gum disease. Smoking limits your blood's oxygen supply, which can harm gum tissue and cause it to recede, exposing the roots of your teeth. It also restricts saliva flow, which is important to washing away food particles and killing bacteria.

Limit Stain-Causing Beverages

Certain beverages, such as coffee, tea, and red wine, can leave stains on your teeth. Not addressing these stains can eventually lead them to penetrate the enamel, making them much more difficult to get rid of. For these reasons, you should limit your intake of these beverages, and sip them through a straw when you have the opportunity.

Whitening Products

There are several whitening products available that can help give you a dazzling smile. You can opt for whitening toothpastes, which help to remove surface stains. If you have deeper set stains, you may want to consider a professional treatment through your dentist. These can range from custom made trays that allow you to whiten at home, or your dentist can perform a treatment in the office.

Visit Your Dentist

Speaking of the dentist, don't forget to schedule regular visits, at least one every six months. Your dentist is an important tool in protecting your oral health. Not only does he give your teeth a thorough cleaning, he is able to closely examine them for any signs of decay, check for gum disease and look for any other issues that you might not have noticed, such as a cracked tooth or other damage.

Now that you know how to get the confident smile you need to make the best possible impression at your new job, go ahead and show it off. The people you work with will be sure to take notice.
