Fighting Back Against Dry Mouth

Posted on 2/25/2017 by Dr. Kelsey Ullsmith
A man suffering from severe dry mouth!
Dry mouth is never good for your mouth. It can increase the chances you have of facing tooth decay, tooth loss, and gum disease.

If you want to battle back against dry mouth, there are a few things you can do. Some things are easy, while other things may be a bit more difficult. However, you do not have to suffer the effects of dry mouth.

How You Can Help Dry Mouth

If you suffer from dry mouth, see if any of these remedies help. If you need additional help, then speak with your dentist. Their ideas are likely going to be very effective, since they can see your mouth directly.

If you smoke, then quitting smoking can help significantly increase the amount of saliva you create. The same goes if you drink tons of caffeine. Cutting these out of your body can give you a lot of relief from dry mouth.

Use products with Xylitol in them. Chew gum that has it in there, to help fight against tooth decay, as well as dry mouth rinses with it in there. The Xylitol doesn't directly help with the dry mouth, but it does help fight the problems associated with dry mouth.

Make sure you breathe through your nose both during the day and when you sleep. Plus, adding a humidifier into your room when you sleep can help fight back against the effects of dry mouth.

When dry mouth is a constant problem for you, you need to contact our office. They need to make sure to keep a close eye on your teeth, plus they can often help you determine the cause of the problem. Once the cause is determined, a treatment plan can be formulated. Then, you can start feeling better in no time!
