Is it Better to Use Waxed Floss or Unwaxed Floss?

When you go to the store to pick out oral hygiene products it can get to be overwhelming at times. So many things to consider and look over. What toothbrush should you pick? What kind of toothpaste works the best? Then you get to dental floss and there is more than one kind there too.

Just when you have everything under control you need to make all these decisions again in three months, when it's time to replace everything. Don't let yourself get overwhelmed, you're already on the right track taking the steps to do the right thing. Here is so more information on picking out the right floss for you.

What's the Difference Between Waxed Floss and Unwaxed Floss?

You may have noticed that there is more than one kind of floss, and there are good reasons for this. We all have different smiles and require different kinds of floss. There is waxed floss, unwaxed floss, flavored floss, wide floss and floss for people who have had teeth removed and need denture floss.

Now what kind of floss do you need? Waxed floss is designed to help get in between teeth that are close together. Most people prefer waxed floss to unwaxed floss.

The biggest complaint about unwaxed floss is that is can fray or hurt you. An unwaxed floss will feel slimmer between teeth, but both will get the job done when done properly. Flossing is the best weapon against tartar and plaque buildup on your teeth and gum line. Flossing should be done every day, even if you have braces or partials to preserve your teeth as long as possible.

A water pick should be used in addition to brushing and flossing and not as a replacement tool. A water pick will not remove plaque like traditional floss and is used to get food particles from small spaces and in between braces.
