Why It Is Best for Your Teeth to Have Even Spaces

However, did you know that it can actually cause complications when it comes to your oral health, too? Here is more information on why it is best for your teeth to have even spaces.

Difficulty Flossing

It stands to reason that if you have overly large spaces between some teeth, the extra space will be taken out of the gap between other teeth. This means that you will have some teeth that are too close together.

Having teeth that are too close together can cause all kinds of problems. From headaches to premature wear on your teeth, the result can be painful and require expensive surgery to correct. However, even if you don't suffer from these issues, having teeth that are too close together can result in difficulty getting the spaces between them properly cleaned.

If you cannot get a piece of floss between two teeth, you will eventually begin to develop premature decay and gum disease in that location. What's more, if two teeth are too close together and you force dental floss in, it can "pop" into place with excessive force, causing damage to the gum tissue.

Improper Biting Surfaces

If your teeth are improperly spaced, you can end up having biting surfaces that don't match quite right. This can accelerate tooth wear, cause headaches, and even lead to cracking or chipping a tooth.

If you're not sure whether the spacing of your teeth is correct, take some time and talk with your dentist about it. He or she can examine your bite pattern, tooth spacing, and even the alignment of your teeth. If he or she finds a problem, it's easier to fix the issue now as opposed to down the road when it's caused other issues.
